Laser Hair Removal in New York (NYC)

It can be frustrating to deal with unwanted hair – the shaving, tweezing, waxing, and hair removal creams can only do so much, and also can be very uncomfortable. Many people are looking for a longer lasting solution. Men and women choose laser hair removal at the New York practice of Dr. Lisa Airan to enjoy smoother skin without the hassles of regular hair maintenance.

How the Procedure Is Performed

The light beam emitted from the laser hair removal device targets the pigment in the hair follicle beneath the skin surface. When the pigment in the hair follicle absorbs laser light, the energy is converted to heat, which results in thermal damage to the hair follicle. This thermal damage causes delayed re-growth of the hair as well as permanent destruction of the hair follicle.

The laser treatment may feel like a mild sting for a fraction of a second. No anesthesia or pain medicine is required. The laser has a built-in cooling tip that not only helps to protect the skin but also helps to minimize the discomfort.

The average patient requires 4 to 6 treatments, at monthly intervals, to achieve 90% reduction of hair. Virtually any area of the body can be treated on both men and women. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the procedure may take 15 minutes to one hour.

Recovery

You may have a little redness like a sunburn and/or small hive-like bumps in the treatment area for a short time following your laser hair removal treatment in our New York City (NYC) office. Avoid self tanning lotions for 2 weeks prior to your procedure. You must not pluck, wax, tweeze or have threading in the treatment area for 1 month prior to treatment, but it is OK to shave, trim or use hair removal creams.
