KYBELLA®

Dr. Lisa Airan’s New York City patients can now have KYBELLA injections, a minimally invasive treatment approved by the FDA to reduce the submental fat we sometimes call a double chin. Until recently, liposuction was the only treatment available to reduce fat below the chin, so KYBELLA offers an innovative alternative.

If you want to minimize the appearance of a double chin without surgery, request a consultation at our New York City practice to learn more about KYBELLA. You may also call to schedule an appointment with Dr. Airan.

HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED

Dr. Airan customizes KYBELLA treatments at her Manhattan office based on the physical examination she conducts during a personal consultation. In most cases, the treatment plan includes a series of precise injections made after carefully marking the injection locations.

KYBELLA uses a substance that naturally occurs in the body called deoxycholic acid, which helps to break down dietary fat. When it’s injected into fat cells just below the skin, it immediately begins to dissolve the cells.

Multiple treatment sessions are usually needed for the best results. Each treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and most patients require about 2 to 4 treatments, spaced at least 30 days apart.

RECOVERY

Many patients can return to work or their normal daily activities immediately following KYBELLA treatments. There is no downtime.

Swelling and bruising are common after the procedure; you may also experience some numbness. The amount of swelling varies from patient to patient, and this is something to keep in mind if you have a social event planned after getting KYBELLA injections.

ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA?

Besides swelling and bruising, the most common side effects reported by patients include redness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These are usually minor and resolve on their own.

Are the results permanent?

KYBELLA works by breaking down the structure of fat cells in the area below the chin. Once the cells break down, they are naturally eliminated from the body over time and can no longer accumulate or store fat. Patients who maintain a relatively stable weight after a treatment series generally do not need any subsequent treatments.

Can KYBELLA be used to reduce fat in other areas of the body?

The FDA approved KYBELLA specifically to reduce submental fat. Currently, it’s not known if KYBELLA treatments would be safe or effective in other areas.
