Fat Grafting

Micro fat grafting, or fat transfer, can be used to shift the shape, size and suppleness of breasts and can be performed as a standalone procedure, or in combination with breast augmentation and mastopexy surgery. The procedure involves the harvesting of fat from unwanted areas such as the abdomen, inner thighs or buttocks, processing said fat and transplanting it to the desired area to achieve a natural fullness and softness. Dr. Born will often employ fat transfer in order to soften the breast contour, fill out and shape the upper pole of breasts, flesh out hollow or bony-looking décolletage (cleavage), and also to help achieve the most natural look and feel to the breasts as possible. If you are looking for a more natural alternative to breast implants surgery, then micro fat grafting may be an option for you.

What it Is

Micro fat grafting, or fat transfer surgery can be used to contour, shape and plump the breasts, as well as other depressed or deflated areas of the body and face. Dr. Born has perfected this technique and can perform the procedure alone or in conjunction with other procedures like breast augmentation, breast lift, Brazilian butt lift, and facial surgery. During the procedure, fat is taken from a donor site using a liposuction cannula (a thin, tube-like syringe) and is then prepared for re-injection into the recipient site. Because you are using your body’s own natural material to add volume back to the breasts, there is no chance of rejection or allergic reaction.

Is it For Me?

Candidates for breast micro fat grafting range in age from 18-70 years of age and are in good health and fit for surgery under general anesthetic. Women who notice slight breast asymmetry; have experienced a loss of shape and volume over time with weight loss; or are simply looking to enhance the appearance of their breasts are generally good candidates for breast micro fat grafting. During your consultation, Dr. Born will perform a full physical assessment in order to gather the information he needs to develop a thorough treatment strategy. You will also discuss your personal goals and concerns. With all of this in mind, Dr. Born will determine which surgical technique and approach should be used in order to guarantee the best outcome with the least amount of risk. Dr. Born has been performing micro fat grafting surgery for the breast, body and face since 1998, longer than any surgeon in Canada. His knowledge and expertise make him one of the most sought after surgeons in the industry to perform the procedure. Dr. Born aims to provide our patients with the best results, the fastest recovery and the highest standard in post-operative care.

What to Expect

Micro fat transfer to the breasts is performed under general anesthetic and can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on the amount of fat to be transferred and the complexity of the particular case. It is important to remember that breast micro fat grafting surgery is not for everyone. Side effects can include swelling, bruising, numbness or tenderness in the treated area, as well as bleeding and oozing at the liposuction site. Dr. Born will discuss all of the potential risks associated with breast augmentation in detail during your private consultation. You can help minimize certain risks by following the advice and instructions of the doctor, both before and after your surgery. Our pre-operative screening process is designed to determine if patients are indeed ideal candidates for surgery.
