Augmentation

One of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in North America, bilateral breast augmentation can enhance the size, shape, and position of your breasts. Silicone or saline-filled implants can help patients achieve a fuller cup size, firmer and more symmetrical breasts, and better positioning for a more youthful and aesthetically-pleasing breast contour.

What it Is

BBA, or bilateral breast augmentation, refers to the enhancement of the breasts using the surgical placement of an implant. There are 2 types of breast implants (silicone or saline) and both are safe, and come with their own set of advantages. During your consultation, Dr. Born will perform a thorough physical assessment, taking a series of measurements to evaluate your skin quality and other characteristics of your natural breast tissue and shape. All of this will play an important role in determining the shape, size, and optimal placement of the implants to achieve the best result possible.

Is it For Me?

Candidates for breast augmentation range from 18-70 years of age and must be in good health and fit for surgery under general anesthetic. If you developed breast asymmetry at an early age or after pregnancy, experienced a loss of shape and volume over time or with weight loss, or are simply looking to enhance your breasts, then breast augmentation may be an option for you. During your consultation, Dr. Born will perform a full physical assessment in order to gather the information he needs to develop a thorough treatment strategy. You will also discuss your personal goals and concerns. With all of this in mind, Dr. Born will determine which surgical technique and approach should be used in order to guarantee the best outcome with the least amount of risk.

Breast augmentation is one of Dr.Born’s most sought-after procedures. Dr. Born has performed thousands of BBA surgeries throughout his medical career and is regarded as one the most accomplished breast augmentation surgeons in the industry. Dr. Born uses the innovative Keller Funnel as part of his breast augmentation surgeries and was among the first group of surgeons to embrace the device. A soft, sterile device, it delivers silicone breast implants more safely and easily into the breast pocket during surgery. Its usage helps reduce the incision length, thereby minimizing any scarring; require less force during implantation limiting swelling and bruising post-surgery; reduce the risk of infection with its “no touch” technique; and reduce the risk of capsular contracture (hardening of breast tissue) post-surgery.

What to Expect

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and the surgery usually takes about an hour to two hours to perform depending on the case. During the surgery, a small incision is made along the underside of the nipple. Dr. Born then creates a “pocket” within the breast tissue where he places the implant. Depending on the individual patient, the implant may be placed either above or beneath the pectoral muscle. With breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Born aims to enhance the breast contour while ensuring the most comfortable, natural look and feel possible for the patient.

It’s important to remember that breast augmentation is not for everyone. Side effects can include swelling, bruising, numbness, tenderness and capsular contraction (hardening of the breast tissue). Dr. Born will discuss all of the potential risks associated with breast augmentation in detail during your private consultation. You can help minimize certain risks by following the advice and instructions of the doctor, both before and after your surgery.
